Handcrafting, baking and Nutella combined in one delicious treat. There’s no way you can go wrong with this mouth-watering eye-catching recipe! Here’s how to make this yourself and believe me, it looks way more difficult than it actually is!

The ingredients for one loaf of braided Nutella bread:

  • 2 ½ cups of flour
  • ½ cup of Nutella (Possibly a bit more for in-between tasting)
  • 1 cup of warm water
  • ½ teaspoon of yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 egg (mixed with a tablespoon of water to use as an egg wash)

Well, let’s not wait any longer for this treat; let’s start baking!

The dough

Dissolve the yeast in ¼ cup of warm water. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to activate the yeast.

Meanwhile, add the flour, salt and sugar into a food mixer bowl. Then add the yeast and the remaining water and mix all this with a food mixer dough hook on a low speed.
After a while, increase the speed to medium and knead the dough for about 7 minutes.

Make a ball of the dough and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover the bowl loosely with some plastic wrap and put it in a warm place. Let the dough rest and rise until it has doubled in size (± 1 hour).

The braiding

Find a good flat surface to work on and cover it with a little flour. Roll the dough out on this surface to form a rectangle (approximately 12 x 15 inches).

Spread the Nutella evenly on the dough, leaving a ½ inch border uncovered. Extra tip: Pre-heat the Nutella in the Microwave for about 20 seconds so it’s easier to spread!

Roll the dough tightly and place the roll on lightly buttered baking paper. Cut the dough length ways through the middle with a knife, leaving one end still attached.

And now, let’s start braiding! Start with the intact end of the role and twist both sides, making sure that the cut sides are always facing upwards.

Cover the dough loosely with plastic wrap and let it rest for another 20 minutes.

The baking

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Cover the bread with the egg/water mixture and bake the bread in the middle of the oven for 20 minutes.

Raise the temperature to 425°F and bake until the Nutella bread is golden brown on top (± 5 minutes longer).

Take the bread out of the oven and enjoy the smell of freshly baked Nutella-bread while it cools down.

And then comes the best part of baking. Tasting!

Mmm… The results are quite impressive, if I may say so myself. But let’s face it; Nutella makes pretty much everything great, so where could you go wrong?!
